Permit information

Victoria's parks, reserves, and waterways can provide the perfect location for your next event, from school sports, private weddings to major events like the Melbourne Marathon and music festivals.

Our parks and waterways are governed by sets of specific rules which at times require permits to undertake activities. To find out more, read the information below.

Acknowledging traditional owners

Aboriginal people, through their rich culture, have been connected to the land and sea, for tens of thousands of years. Parks Victoria respectfully acknowledges Aboriginal Traditional Owners, their cultures and knowledge and their continuing connection to and cultural obligations to care for their Country.

Parks Victoria is proud of the strong relationship it has with Traditional Owners and encourages all event organisers to undertake an acknowledgment of country. For more information on the protocols for recognising Traditional Owners please visit The Office of Aboriginal Affairs Victoria.

Event - call for dates

Parks Victoria receives over 2,500 event applications each year to conduct a variety of activities on public land and waterways, many of which are concentrated in a small number of parks. To assist with a fair and equitable allocation of events, and to enable effective planning and resourcing, Parks Victoria has established a formal Call for Dates process to develop a calendar of events (a year in advance) for each location. The process also benefits event organisers by enabling them to lock in dates for future activities. Importantly, this process does not preclude event organisers from applying at any stage.

Find out more and see if any current opportunities are available on the Event call for dates page.
