Updated - Buchan Caves Reserve Swimming Pool

Wednesday 11 December, 2019

Parks Victoria wishes to advise visitors and campers the Buchan Caves Reserve* stream fed swimming pool will be closed.

The safety of our visitors is our priority and due to a range of factors, the water quality of this pool is not safe for visitors to swim in. We are not able to meet the minimum water quality requirements under the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations.

As the Buchan Caves Reserve is spring fed, Parks Victoria have been monitoring water levels and water quality and this assessment has found that the swimming pool does not meet the mandatory standards which are critical in protecting the health and wellbeing of Victorians.

Visitor safety is Parks Victoria’s top priority, we have a duty to protect our visitors and ensure our public amenity is compliant.

Parks Victoria is continuing to investigate ways to make the Buchan Caves Reserve swimming pool compliant. This includes investigations into how Parks can achieve the required to turnover rate and water quality standards to protect public health. We encourage visitors to access other swimming pools located across East Gippsland including Orbost, Lakes Entrance and Bairnsdale.

*Buchan Caves Reserve is one of the jointly managed parks with the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation
