Buchan Caves Reserve set to reopen
Tuesday 11 February, 2020
The Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation and Parks Victoria are pleased to announce the Buchan Caves Reserve will reopen to visitors on Friday 14 February 2020.
This will coincide with the running of the annual Canni Creek Races at nearby Buchan South over the weekend.
Although more severely fire-affected parts of the park will remain closed, visitors will be able to access the campground and enjoy a night under the stars. For those seeking additional comfort, why not book a stay at the historic Caves House catering for up to eight guests.
Alternatively enjoy a relaxing day out at the Buchan Caves Reserve, having a picnic or barbecue with your friends and family. The Buchan Caves visitor centre will be operating, and we encourage visitors to support the Buchan township by enjoying a meal at the Buchan Roadhouse or the Caves Hotel or by purchasing supplies at the General Store.
Given the fire impacts throughout the park, walking tracks and other areas within the Reserve will remain closed to visitors for safety reasons. For the time being cave tours are not being offered pending assessment of cave air quality and safety checks of cave infrastructure.
Our teams are working hard to undertake the assessments and recovery works that are needed to restore the park, and we appreciate your continued understanding while these processes are underway.
Buchan Caves Reserve is one of 10 parks jointly managed with the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation in Gippsland. The Joint Management agreement recognises that the Gunaikurnai people hold Aboriginal Title and maintain a strong connection to Country.
