1000 Steps and Redwood Forest to re-open

Tuesday 15 December, 2020

With the re-opening of Kokoda Memorial Track (1000 steps) and Redwood Forest on 15 December, visitors are reminded to plan ahead and avoid peaks times, especially on weekends.

1000 Steps and Redwood Forest were closed during COVID-19 restrictions in the interest of public safety as they were unable to accommodate physical distancing requirements. The parks now have COVID-safe plans in place and Parks Victoria rangers will conduct regular patrols to manage visitor numbers.

It is important for visitors to note that when the carparks are full, the parks are at capacity and they should try another park in the region.

Quotes attributable to Parks Victoria District Manager, Victoria Purdue:

“The Parks Victoria team has been working hard to prepare the Kokoda Memorial Track (1000 steps) for re-opening, including constructing new passer bays and implementing a permanent one-way loop on the narrow 1000 steps staircase.”

“Visitors to parks and reserves are reminded of physical distancing, hygiene and face-mask requirements, and to please stay home if unwell."
