Greenvale Reservoir Park reopens for pedestrians

Tuesday 4 January, 2022

Scenic Greenvale Reservoir Park has reopened for pedestrians – with new gates and signage installed recently installed at two entry points along Venezia Promenade.

The park has been partially reopened thanks to the Victorian Government’s Urban Parks Active Wellbeing Program, which is delivering $21 million of upgrades across 21 parks to encourage more Melburnians to spend time outdoors and enjoy the benefits of being in nature.

The park had been closed for several years following an upgrade of the reservoir wall and water quality protection works.

The northern section of the park will initially be open between 9 am and 8 pm, with 24-hour access expected in early 2022.

Located in Melbourne’s north, Greenvale Reservoir Park offers grassy slopes and a short walking trail great for spotting birds and wildlife. The reservoir is one of Melbourne’s protected water catchments and provides drinking water to the north-western and western suburbs of Melbourne.

New picnic tables will be delivered to the park in early 2022, while a second stage of works, expected in 2023, will upgrade the northern loop trail with a new surface and benches, allowing visitors to enjoy a walk as they take in views of the reservoir.

While these works are an important first step in reopening the northern sections of the park for local pedestrians, carparking and other visitor amenities are not currently available.

Twenty other parks are receiving upgrades through the Urban Parks Active Wellbeing Program, including Brimbank Park and Organ Pipes National Park in Melbourne’s north-west.

The program will deliver new picnic tables, refurbished and upgraded picnic shelters and toilets, upgraded electric BBQs, replacement of playground equipment, improved signage, wider and more accessible pathways, trail and carpark repairs at parks across Melbourne.
