Autumn Unseen Places
We know our famous places are truly Instagram-worthy. Social media is full of spectacular snaps and panoramas of the same incredible places in our parks. This autumn, why not go somewhere new, more interesting and a bit less known? Our Parks Victoria rangers invite you to discover some of nature's Unseen Places. Find unexpected adventures and unique scenery in the hidden gems of Victoria's diverse natural landscape. You’ll see that you don't have to travel far from Melbourne to catch a glimpse - and some snaps - of the great unknown.
Summit views at Mount Buangor State Park
Looking for sweeping summit views? Head north of Ballarat to Mount Buangor State Park. This peak is the highest in the area, and from here you can see stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Escape into the bush and pitch a tent at one of three campgrounds to explore these varied landscapes, including eucalypt forest, creek flats, waterfalls and steep escarpments. Experienced bushwalkers and hikers can go even deeper into these misty forests and bush-covered slopes via the 15km network of semi-remote and steep walking tracks that connect with Mount Cole State Forest.
Waterfalls cascading at Agnes Falls Scenic Reserve
Victoria's tall forests are lush and dense with sassafras, ferns and towering mountain ash with cascading waterfalls and a symphony of birdsong echoing through the trees. But rather than head west to Great Otway National Park, discover Agnes Falls Scenic Reserve. Hidden within the green, rolling hills of the Strzelecki Ranges, the meandering Agnes River cascades from a 59m height over rocks into a deep picturesque gorge, forming Agnes Falls. Pack a picnic and birdwatch in this protected pocket of old forest and native bushland.
Wildlife and windswept landscapes at French Island National Park
If you’re drawn to pristine coastline and secluded pockets of wildlife, think beyond Wilson’s Prom and take the ferry to French Island National Park. This island paradise situated in Western Port offers a haven of peace and serenity to visitors and a diverse range of wildlife, including rare birds and the most significant population of koalas in Victoria.
Rugged bushlands at Greater Bendigo National Park
Victoria's national, state and regional parks will take you off the beaten track. Where there's fewer people, there's more to be seen. Greater Bendigo National Park is an ideal spot for birdwatching, bushwalking, picnics and camping under the stars in beautiful and remote rugged bushland. Explore some of the best Box-Ironbark forest left in Victoria, home to diverse bird species, including that colourful autumn visitor, the Swift Parrot. Explore a bit further and see spectacular scenery along the Bendigo Bushland Trail and Goldfields Track.
