Nature being nature, sometimes conditions can change at short notice. It’s a good idea to check this page ahead of your visit for any updates.

Wabonga Track Closure

Wabonga Track in the Alpine National Park is currently closed between Paradise Falls Road and MacMillans Tracks.

A large spring has opened up in the middle of the road creating a sink hole that presents a hazard to entering vehicles.

The track will remain closed until conditions allow for road repairs. The track is expected to open in January 2023

Partial track closure - Besford Track, Alpine NP

A severely water damaged section of Besford Track, within the Alpine National Park north of Benambra, is closed to all vehicles. There is no through access for vehicles on Besford Track between the Benambra-Corryong Road and Deep Creek Track.

Seasonal road closures 2022

Some roads in this park are subject to seasonal road closures. Seasonal road closures generally operate from after the long weekend in June through to the end of October, but may be extended due to seasonal conditions. Visit the seasonal road closures page for maps and more information.

Bogong High Plains Road closed from Cranky Charlie to Falls Creek

Parks Victoria would like to advise you that the Department of Transport has closed the Bogong High Plains Road, between Mt Beauty and Falls Creek, to all traffic due to a landslip near Bogong Village.  At this stage it is not clear how long the road will be closed; current advice suggests that it may be closed for some time.

The Bogong High Plains Road between the Omeo Highway and Falls Creek is open.

Falls Creek is open but they have requested that visitation be minimised as the resort is currently operating at minimal capacity (unknown operation of the supermarket, no medical services and a minimum travel time of two (2) hours for any emergency response).
For the latest information on the resort visit - fallscreek.com.au

The Alpine National Park (Bogong High Plains) is open.  Please be aware that if you access the Park from the east the closest medical services are located at Omeo.  Visit Parks Victoria’s website parks.vic.gov.au  or call 13 1963 for current conditions.

Traffic conditions are available at traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au or via the VicEmergency app.

In an emergency call 000.

Partial closure of Mount Benambra Summit, Upper Murray, Alpine National Park

During the period 14 October to 16 December 2022 there will be a partial and intermittent closure of Mount Benambra Summit in the Upper Murray section of the Alpine National Park while maintenance and upgrade works are conducted on the communications infrastructure on the summit.

During this period no public vehicle access is permitted to the car park at the summit of Mount Benambra. Public vehicles will still be able to access the Fireman's Hut car park and picnic area, which is located approximately 240m below the summit.

Pedestrian access between the Fireman's Hut car park and the summit (including the viewing platform) will be intermittent, depending on the nature of the maintenance works at the time - when pedestrian access is not allowed a sign will be placed at the Fireman's Hut car park however, the sign will be removed when pedestrian access is allowed.

The intermittent pedestrian access is important as we recognise the very high and unseasonal level of tourism to the area, driven by the spilling of Dartmouth Dam however, if you travel to the Fireman's Hut car park please accept that you may not be able to access the summit if there are high risk works in progress.

Please follow directional signage and travel safely on alpine roads as they may be impacted by recent weather events.

Temporary Track Closures - Alpine National Park (Tingaringy Unit)

The 4WD track network in the section of Alpine National Park east of the Snowy River is currently closed to visitors due to very poor track condition.

Tracks affected are Armstrong Track, Snowy Track, Amboyne Track, Blackguard Gully Track, Laurie Track, Tingaringy Track, Rosendale Track, Ingram Track, Cameron Track, Allen Track and Browns Break.

Zeka Spur Track Closed

Zeka Spur Track is closed due to track not being passable.

Speculation Road (The Staircase) Closed to all traffic

Due to numerous rainfall events, a number of springs have appeared on the Speculation Road between the King Hut Track and the Lake Cobbler Track. These springs have become impassable.

Howitt Road - Alpine National Park

Due to the recent weather and increased moisture a number of wet soaks have opened up on the Howitt Rd north of Dimmicks Lookout.
As such, the Howitt Rd is only recommended for 4wd vehicles with self-recovery equipment.
2WD, AWD and mini-buses should currently avoid the road.
Parks Victoria is currently mobilising machinery and equipment to repair the road.

Ground shooting operations targeting deer

Ground shooting operations targeting deer will be undertaken in this Park from December 2022 to June 2023.  The Park will remain open to visitors.
