A fantastic spot to watch Humpback whales migrate through the area on a calm beautiful winter's day. Visitors can access this spectacular ocean viewing site located close to the popular seaside town of Flinders, overlooking the Southern Ocean.

The area is developed for hang gliders to launch over the coastal escarpment with landing opportunities on Flinders Ocean Beach. Recommended for experienced hang gliders only. Always check conditions before launching.

Basic toilet facilities are located at the Flinders Ocean Beach Rd Carpark, to the east of the launch site.

Lifejackets Required For Rock Fishers from March 1, 2022

A two-year trial of new laws that require rock fishers to wear a lifejacket at high-risk locations will commence on 1 March 2022.
 
For Mornington Peninsula National Park, this includes the following locations:
  • Sorrento Back Beach rocks
  • No. 16 beach at Rye back beach
  • Bushrangers Bay rocks, east of Cape Schanck
 
This factsheet includes maps of the affected areas.
 
Fines apply if you don’t wear a lifejacket at these sites.
