Buchan Caves Reserve Pool
The Buchan pool reopened in April 2023 after instigating daily water monitoring to ensure the flow of water into the pool remains at levels acceptable to health department requirements. We are performing weekly water quality testing to ensure the water is safe for swimmers. We are continuing to investigate enduring solutions to manage the Buchan Caves Reserve Pool. We have engaged a specialist consulting team to investigate the unique nature of the facility including hydrology, cave systems, water diversions, risk management, and pool operations. This report will provide a range of options to consider and implement. There is a planned temporary closure to allow staff to undertake maintenance and safety works, including fencing, signage and improving work on the weir structure that controls water flow. The pool will close for approximately six weeks from Monday 4 September to Monday 16 October. We apologise for any inconvenience, but by undertaking these works we will be able to keep the pool open and safe.
The project
The Black Summer bushfires of 2019-20 heavily impacted Buchan Caves Reserve and destroyed the cabins and wilderness retreats. Camping and cave tours are open for visitors to enjoy. Parks Victoria is replacing and upgrading the lost accommodation and visitor facilities to enhance visitors’ experiences in this unique landscape.
