Gipps Street Ramp

Planning has resumed to replace the Gipps Street steps on the Main Yarra Trail at Abbotsford with an elevated shared path ramp. Once complete, the new ramp will provide improved accessibility and a more enjoyable experience for all users of the Main Yarra Trail.

What stage is the project at now?

Following the appointment of engineering consultants in December 2020, the project design has been further developed and a Town Planning Application has been lodged with the City of Yarra. Detailed design work is progressing to prepare the project for construction.

Stakeholder Task Force

We plan to reconvene a Task Force that was formed earlier in the planning process to ensure the input of local residents, key user groups, local government, the Office of Victorian Government Architects (OVGA), Parks Victoria, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and representatives from the office of the Member of Parliament for Richmond.

Where to from here?

We understand this project has been planned for some time and appreciate your patience. We look forward to progressing the trail improvements in the near future.

Project timeline:

•  March 2021 – Lodge Town Planning Application

•  September 2021 – Conclude land acquisition process (DELWP)

  Late 2021 – Commence construction
